Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a stomach virus three weeks ago and vomited twice. Since then I ve had terrible GERD symptoms. I ve tried tums and rolaids with temporary relief. The symptoms are related to eating. It happens about 30 min after eating. I feel slight nausea and have excess saliva after eating. I ve never had this before and am not overweight or an unhealthy eater.
Hi ! Good afternoon. I am Dr shareef answering your query.
Even though symptomatically you might have been relieved from bad stomach, possibly the causative organism is still persisting. If I were your doctor, I would advise you for a routine stool test for ova and cyst, and till the report comes, would advise you for a proton pump inhibitor, a prokinetic drug, and a probiotic, apart from suggesting you to raise the head end of your bed with one or two wooden blocks to reduce the regurgitation symptoms. In case of any infective pathology in the stool test, that has to be treated with appropriate antibiotics.
I hope this information would help you in discussing with your family physician/treating doctor in further management of your problem. Please do not hesitate to ask in case of any further doubts. Thanks for choosing health care magic to clear doubts on your health problems. Wishing you an early recovery. Dr Shareef.
