I have a pulsating lump in my neck. It feels like my carotid artery is enlarged. I have had an ulta sound and a ct scan. That were normal. I have been to 5 doctors and no one seems to know what it is. I had swollen lymph nodes in my neck and was using pressure with my hand to get them to drain. Could I have injured my carotid artery or displaced it by doing this? What would cause it to be enlarged? It also has a burning sensation at times.
Hi, No pressure on any lymph nodes can cause the Carotid artery to get injured or enlarge. Also, lymph node enlargement cannot be decreased by pressure to drain them. The lump that you feel must be the lymph nodes that are swollen. Your Carotid artery must be normal as CT Scan is normal. Do not worry. Lymph node swellings in the neck are very common. Just relax and observe the swellings. Over a period of time they will decrease. If not, then get an FNAC of the node done which can tell you what is in your node and treatment can then be initiated. Take care, Dr Rishi, New Delhi, India.

My doctor hear a swishing sound in cartoid artery when I went in for my physical. She sent me for a cartoid doppler, the results of which read normal but her diagnosis was cartoid bruit; but no further action was recommended. I m confused by the diagnosis in my medical record when test results were normal.
I have had pain in my carotid artery off and on in the last several weeks but it was much more pronounced yesterday. It is still somewhat painful today. I am a 51 year old female in good health. I do take Armour 120 mg daily for my thyroid. Is this something to be concerned about?
I just had a Bilateral carotid artery ulstrasound with the following findings. The right common carotid artery peak systolic velocity is 87 cm/second and the internal cartotid artery peak systolic velocity is 216 cm/second. Pre sclerotic right ICA ststolic velocity measures 86, with post dynamic velociity measuring 205 centimeters per second. The systolic velocity ratio is 2.5. On the left, the common is 66 cm/second & internal is 424 cm/second. Pre stenotic velocity is 129 and post is 179 cm/sec. The systolic velocity ratio is 3.1. I am seeing a surgeon tomorrow. Are these numbers alarming?
Dear Doctor, it seems as if mucus is blocking the airway in the roof of my mouth and cuts off my breath for a few seconds until i can swallow and seem to move the mucus. i actually fear i won t be able to get my breath back. This first happened back in december - i had never had it happen before. i had been sick with a sinus cold back in october. it seems to clear up ok. i am 47 yrs old. female adn 5 4 1/2 and I have been diagnosed with a 75% blockage in my carotid artery. i am not on any medications other than a low dose aspirin. I have a herniated c7 that gave me a fit three years ago. Play tennis regularly and started to run again. Back doesn t hurt anymore, never had surgery. Do weights 2 to 3 times a week. Only pain that never went away was thumb numbness that gets worse with weather. None of that bothers me. What concerns me is the erratic twitch of the muscle in my neck near my carotid artery. This started happening about three weeks ago and is very intermittment . My BP seems fine, and I don t think it is my heart speeding up, pulse remains normal. Worried it could be a verterbral dissection. I am 51 years old and have been on the internet too long. ha! I am also going through menopause so didn t know if it could be part of that.
