Hi,

You might have an intestinal infection by bacteria like giardia, amoeba, salmonella or clostridium or by a virus (called stomach flu).

A stool examination will demonstrate it and the specific antibiotic course can be started thereafter.

As far as your weight loss is concerned, it has many causes like chronic diseases, infection, thyroid problems, bipolar, depression, stroke and brain ischemia, malabsorption syndrome, malignancy, tuberculosis etc. It needs detailed work up. When was your last TSH done and what were the values. Please rule out the overcorrection of hypothyroidism as hyperthyroidism is a leading cause of weight loss.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. AJEET SINGH, General & Family Physician
