What Can Cause Broken Blood Vessels?

My boss recently had a blood vessel break in the corner of his eye about 2 weeks ago and it just got better and today he went for a massage and at some point his face was facing down and came back with what looked like a broken blood vessel in his upper lip.

Hello,

I can understand your concern. Our face and lips, if looked at closely, present many tiny capillaries. There are many reasons that cause breakage or dilatation to some of them and the condition is knows as broken capillaries or telangiectases.

Excessive exposure of skin to sun, vigorous rubbing of facial areas or presence of rosacea acne can cause this trouble. There is no treatment to for it, but it can be prevented by protecting facial skin from excessive sun exposure and vigorous rubbing.

In addition, Vitamin A supplements can help to improve the skin and prevent such breakage. If there is cosmetic concern, concealers can be used.

However, if the condition continues or worsens, a dermatologist should be seen to investigate any systemic disorder associated with the condition.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. Take care.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
