What Can Be Done About Restoring Stomach Lining And LES Functionality?
I have a patient who was given a high dose of prednisone for 2 weeks, 20 mg/day or more. Subsequent to that, she is suffering from LPR, laryngo-pharyngeal reflux which is triggering her asthma. What can be done about restoring her stomach lining and LES functionality?
Prednisone can surely cause gastritis and other problems and if this was the only medicine take then the following can be done for I would advise the patient the following: Stop Prednisone. Start a PPI like Pantoprazole. Antacids every three hours. Soft bland diet. Small frequent meals. If this does not relieve the problem it is always better to get an upper GI Endoscopy and other investigations under the care of a Gastroenterologist to get a proper diagnosis and management. Avoid all the medications that are not stomach friendly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
