What can I do to lower my blood pressure and cholesterol?

What can I do to lower my blood pressure and cholesterol on my own without meds??
I am wanting to stop taking so many meds and I was wanting to know what kinds of food should I *avoid* and what kinds of foods would *help* me lower these two things? I know that getting active will help but what other things can I do on my own?? Thanks for your help.

have you try eating oatmeal, my cholesterol was 586 I was so sick and scare after I found out that I could get a stroke or heart attack that I eat only oatmeal for a month. 3 times a day stop eating everything else and my cholesterol went down a lot so if you want to try it go ahead it work for me, have you try cutting on sweets, salt,pasta,red meat,processed food, fast food, drink only water, it has help me allot good luck. been there
