What Are The Withdrawal Symptoms Of Prednisone?

Hi: Dr. prescribed 10 mg of prednisone once per day for 5 days but said I could discontinue after 3 days if I felt better. Are any side effects likely. Dr. also prescribed Montelukast 10 mg. I feel fine. I just have minor wheezing and occasional cough with minimal mucous. But I have had this for six weeks. She also prescribed Fluticasone 50 mcg nasal spray once per day. I wonder if this might be too much medication. And, after reading patient reviews and possible side effects of Prednisone, I am a bit scared. I am 80 years old but otherwise in very good health and golf regularly. I did not seek treatment. Only went for annual physical exam which was fine. Thanks for your consideration - Jim

Hi
I had read your question and understand your concern . See , steroid use cannot be stopped abruptly; tapering the drug gives the adrenal glands time to return to their normal patterns of secretion. Withdrawal symptoms and signs (weakness, fatigue, decreased appetite, weight loss, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain) can mimic many other medical problems.
I hope this information was of help.
Wish you good health.
