What Are The Withdrawal Effects Of Clindamycin Dose?

i was on clindamycin in mid december for an infection before a root canal, at the end of the month and after i had finished taking the medication, i developed severe cramping and diarrhea, after a week i went to the dr who put me on flagyl, i was doing much better after a few days and then developed a severe ear infection, so the dr put me on amoxicillin. i completed both dosages of both medications as administered, and now a few days after i am experiencing the same severe cramping and diarrhea, while not as bad as before. I also have been taking a probiotic capsule daily. i leave in 3 days for my honeymoon to jamaica and need to know if i should be concerned and return to the dr for yet another antibiotic, please help!

Hello,
clindamycin is well known for causing antibiotic associated diarrhea. Clostridium difficile is the most likely pathogen and that's why you've prescribed flagyl. If the diarrhea won't resolve on itself (or won't get much better after you've stopped amoxicillin) you'll need to repeat the treatment with flagyl. Testing your stool for Clostridium difficile toxins would help a lot.

If your condition gets more severe with high fever and abdominal pain then you should consult your doctor again. Other treatment options (and investigation) might be appropriate because Flagyl is the first option in mild to moderate cases. The most severe ones require other approaches.

I hope I've helped!
