What Are The Treatments For Cough And Blocked Nose Of A 6 Month Old Baby?

My son is 6months old, he has a cough and blocked nose, I think a post nasal drip as well, I have tried all home remedies and nothing seems to work, can I give him tussitot cough syrup? What else is advisable to treat the cough and eliminate the blocked nose?

Hi

For blocked nose you may use saline nasal drops (Nasoclear) 2 drops in both the nostrils every 4 to 6 hrs.

Regarding cough formulations, its always better to get the chest checked by a doctor before giving any medicines. The medications vary according to the type of cough, with phlegm or a dry one, presence of wheeze etc.

If its associated with phlegm, you may try Mucolyte drops 0.5 ml twice a day for 5 days.
But if cough is severe or he vomits after the cough or is associated with fast breathing or the cough is interfering with feeding, it would be better to consult your Pediatrician.
