What Are The Treatment Options For Avascular Necrosis (AVN) Of Hip Other Than Neurotherapy?
I am suffering from avn of the hip joint for the past 4 years. I am 37 years of age. The only treatment i am undergoing is neurotherapy. It gives me relief .Can avn be arrested with medication? Is surgery a good option and at what stage? More than the physical pain i am finding it difficult to cope with it mentally.
Avascular necrosis of hip is disease caused due to cessation of blood supply of head of femur, it is progressive and goes through various stages. As you have it since past 4 years it would be better to find out the stage of disease by getting MRI of hip done. some pharmacological drugs like bisphosphonate ( alandronate) have sown results in slowing down the processs of necrosis in stage 0 and1 In stage 1 and 2 with these drugs neurotherapy, electrical stimulation works. upto stage 3 the most recent treatment is core decomprrssion and injection of autologous osteoblast. aftet stage 3 total hip Arthroplasty is most successful. You need not worry after discussing your disease stage with your orthopaedician you can start the treatment. If you have any further query I will be happy to asnwer. wish you good health Dr Kuldeep Nathawat
