What Are The Treatment And Symptoms Of Thyroid Cancer?

Hi, may I I have had an underactive thyroid since January 2004 diagnosed after the birth of my first child. I currently take eltroxin 75mg/100mg alternative days. Scans since 2008 have shown the growth of small nodules in both lobes measuring less than 1 cm. However a recent scan has shown a nodule measuring 4.1cm which is hyper vasulcar and hyper echoic with ill defined borders, this nodule was not present a year ago. I have seen an ent who will remove it in 4 weeks. my questions are (1) I know thyroid cancer is curable if detected early is this still early if the nodule was not there a year ago? (2) is it ok to wait the month for surgery he has no other openings? the ent is only going to remove the right gland since there are nodules in the other gland too why not take out the full thyroid? I am a 41 year old mum with 3 young children and I am very worried and frightened I look forward to a response?answer your health queries right now ? Please type

Hi, dear
I have gone through your question.
I can understand your concern.

You have hypothyroidism and you are taking eltroxin that is fine.

Now you have multiple nodule in thyroid gland. It can be multinodular goitre, adenoma or some cancer.

In my opinion you should go for fine needle aspiration cytology once. It will give you probable diagnosis whether it is cancer or not.

If it is cancer then you should not wait and go for surgery as early as possible. If it is benign lesion then you can wait.

You are right. Thyroid cancer is treatable in early stage. But it depend on spread not the time duration. If it is still in thyroid and not spread beyond it then it has excellent prognosis.

Hope I have answered your question. If you have any doubts then feel free to ask me.
I will be happy to answer.
