What Are The Symptoms That Indicate Having Acid Reflux?

I have the symptoms of acid reflux but in various websites there is virtually no advice about drinking water and no reference to my problem of vomiting especially after eating oranges or tomatoes or alcohol . I hardly have any heartburn but have developed a cough. I m confused by the continual use of the word reflux to apparently mean an acidic passage from the stomach. Does this mean vomiting or not? I don t smoke, I get regular exercise and I am not overweight. Thanks for your time.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of vomiting which is not necessarily acid reflux, it could be due to gastritis as well. Need not to worry. Acid reflux occurs due to loosening of sphincters and passage of more acid in stomach. You should avoid oily and spicy food. Keep at least 2 hours gap between your food and sleeping time (bed time). I would advise that you get an upper Gastrointestinal tract endoscopy done to look for the severity of gastritis. You need to reduce the quantity of food taken per meal. While sleeping put two pillows under your head. This all will prevent reflux. Take Pantoprazole 40mg empty stomach OD. Start taking proton pump inhibitors.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
