What Are The Symptoms Of Thalassemia Major?

Hye sir.. my daughter seem to habe talesemia major... but it not confirmed yret by doctor.. but she look normal back then before she get into the hospital and get tratment by the doctor... she look like fobia with hospital and people around her... she afraid when meet people nowadays after getting treatment by the doctor... before she get the blood tranfusion... she seem happy and look normal like any children... but now she looks unhappy... why was that happen? Does any medical treatment using cannabis for thalesemia? And how to confirm that she has thalesemia major?

Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, if she is needing regular blood transfusions it may be due to thalesemia major however for confirmation you can get Hb electrophoresis done to confirm it.

However, the current symptoms show underlying anxiety or stress disorder which may be associated with her chronic illness as it can leave psychological manifestations on her.

So it's better to get her evaluated by a psychologist and motivational sessions or group therapies may be needed.

Meanwhile if regular transfusions have been done in past her ferritin levels should be monitored as it's increase can also cause such symptoms. She also needs to be reviewed for any complications due to iron overload.
