What Are The Symptoms Of Strep Throat Infection?

I believe I might have Strep throat. I went to the doctors today and they said it was negative, but it could possibly become positive in the next few days. I checked my tonsils and I can see there is a bit of white in the back of my mouth. My right tonsil looks fine but my left one has some white on it, and I can see some Bain s popping out. I have also noticed a small red spot beside it in the back of my mouth. Could this be strep, or some other thing major, or is it something that will go away?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Strep throat is normally associated with severe pain and persisting fever. If there is pain and it continues then you can be reassessed.

Most cases of sore throat are due to a viral infection or allergies or severe GERD. In rare cases, the discomfort is due to a serious cause.

Viral infections resolve on their own.

I hope this helps.
