What Are The Symptoms Of Penile Ringworm Infection And Penile Herpes?

I m looking up symptoms of penile ringworm versus penile herpes. I have a rash on the head of my penis that is not circular, itchy, flaky, or painful. Hoping its ringworm. I went to my urologist today, hes not really sure, thinks it could be herpes. He said he d put me on a herpes meds and if it cleared it was herpes. Ive had this in the past and my primary said it was ringworm and used a cream which worked but keeps coming back. Im uncircumcised. I have an appt to my primary again to look at and I would like std testing...is there such a test

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Rash or inflammation on the head of the penis is commonly due to Balanitis. If you are having recurrent infections, get circumcision done, its just a minor surgery.

However, if you are sexually active with multiple partners, you are suggested to get STD tests done to stay on the safer side.

If the reports are positive for STI, you may need antivirals/antibiotics depending upon the severity of the pathology detected.

In the meantime, you can continue to take the medications prescribed. You may apply anti fungal ointments on the area affected.

A course of antifungals (Fluconaole) are effective. Take care of your hygiene, avoid multiple partners & unprotected sex.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
