What Are The Symptoms Of Non Pressure Hydrocephalus With Apathy Incontinence?

My brother in law suffered a severe traumatic brain injury ~2 1/2 years ago. He spent 4 months in the hospital before being discharged home. When he came home, he was walking and was continent. In the last year he has completely stopped walking, was experiencing falls, and has become incontinent of urine on a daily basis. I am an RN and recently heard the term non pressure hydrocephalus with apathy incontinence and think this may be what is going on with my brother in law. Could I be right?

Hello!
Welcome on Healthcaremagic!
I agree with you that his symptoms could be related to non pressure hydrocephalus.
For this reason, I recommend performing a brain MRI and discussing with a neurosurgeon.
A lumbar puncture would help confirm the diagnosis (in this clinical disorder the evacuation of a certain amount of the cerebrospinal fluid can lead to improvement of the symptoms).
You should discuss with his doctor on these issues.
Best wishes, Dr. Aida
