What Are The Symptoms Of Menopause?

Hi. I am almost 53 and had a procedure about two years ago for heavy extremely heavy periods. So, I no longer get a period. I don t know when I will know if I am going through menopause. My mom rarely had hot flashes. I have had some here and there .... I think? It s not like I was drenching in sweat but I don t sleep well and have mood swings and my brain just won t shut off. So how am I going to know I am going through it?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi. Thank you for the question.

Symptoms of menopause are seen because of low levels of estrogen in the body. This usually presents with these symptoms.

- Fatigue
- Vaginal dryness
- Night sweats
- hot flashes
- Loss of hair

Usually, one would need a hormone check up to decide if the hormone levels or the estrogen level correspond to menopause. Seeing a Gynecologist for this would be useful.

I hope this helps.
