Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
im 44, 5'5 and over the last 6 months have gone from11 stone to 14 stone. 6 months ago a friend pointed out that being exhausted all the time and having pain everywhere wasn't normal. I used to do competitive sport but can barely walk up the stairs now. i often feel my body slowing down and can hear my voice getting slow, im always cold and my hair and eyebrows are falling out. I've had many blood tests but the doctor all say they are normal in his opinion. when i ask what that means he won't explain and seems intent on proving that his initial theory that i am depressed is right
The symptoms that you have described point towards hypothyroidism, which occurs due to a deficiency of thyroid hormones in the body. Weight gain, fatigue, low mood, cold intolerance, slowing of mental faculties, loss of eyebrow and scalp hair are all seen in hypothyroidism. Please ask your doctor if you have been tested for thyroid hormone levels or not. If these were due to depression, you yourself would have known that you are depressed and there are would have other symptoms as well like negative thoughts, hopelessness, death wishes etc.
Best wishes.
