What Are The Symptoms Of Bipolar Depression?

Age 23 suffering from depression for about 7 years, it was not affecting my abilities at first so i let it be but it slowly got worse and in university i had lost nearly all of my will and could not make myself to do any work physical or mental, then had to freeze my semester cause i could not make myself go to attend classes, started taking antidepressants after consulting a Psychiatrist after about two weeks i felt more than great and felt like i was at the top of the world but it only lasted a few days after which i again felt depressed this cycle continued with decreasing number of days i felt good and after a month or so antidepressants stopped working completely but i still took them for 5 months after which i stopped. Then i consulted another psychiatrist and started taking some other antidepressants but they provided the same results but with becoming useless faster, consulted with the psychiatrist but he did not believe me said it was all in my head and there is no such thing as resistance to antidepressants. i have heard the condition of bipolar depression and most of my symptoms coincide should i consult another psychiatrist and ask for medication for bipolar depression?

Hello,

Some symptoms that suggest a person might have bipolar disorder are Uncharacteristic periods of anger and aggression, Grandiosity and overconfidence, Easy tearfulness, frequent sadness, Needing little sleep to feel rested, Uncharacteristic impulsive behavior, Moodiness, Confusion and inattention.

Signs of mania: increased activity; less need for sleep; overly euphoric or irritable mood; racing thoughts; forceful, rapid speech.

Signs of depression: sad or anxious mood; excessive feelings of guilt or worthlessness; loss of interest in pleasurable activities (like sex); difficulty concentrating; sleep disturbance.

Your symptoms are suggestive of bipolar and you should start medication immediately.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
