Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I was diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse ( I know that isn t spelled right ☺) anywzy, I was told that the day would come I would have to have the valve fixed. My question is, when will I know? What kind of signs do I look for? Thank You for your time. A.C.
Brief answer: Asymptomatic most of the time, palpitations sometimes, dyspnea and fatigue if regurgitation happens.
Explanation: My opinion is that mitral valve prolapse is a normal variation, where mitral valve bulge in to left atrium a little bit during cardiac contraction, but without regurge or functional problem. Some cases discovered accidentally and other patients complain of palpitations. Wear and tear process may happen with prolonged periods and in few cases develop some regurge. I suggest my patients the following, nothing to worry now if other echocardiogram data is normal, do your activities freely and if any new complaint or symptom develops get your check-up.
Conclusion: I suggest that you have a near normal condition that should not be a problem to you right now.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mahmmad Gamal
