Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Good morning. I have a question concerning Tourette s Syndrome. I believe that my partner may suffer from it. He is sometimes (especially when under stress) saying some unintelligible phrases in a very scary voice which doesn t sound like his at all. It s like he is throwing these words out, and then he feels better. This scary, low voice bothers me the most. On asking him about it, he says he doesn t remember. Can it be a sign of Tourette s? Thank you for your help. It s important to me to learn what is going on with him and help him somehow

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hello,
Though, his symptoms can simulate the physical and sensory parts of tics seen in the syndrome.
Tourette syndrome mostly starts before 18 years of age and symptoms go on reducing as age advances.
Your partner needs consultation of a neuro physician. Behavioral therapy/physical therapy and specific medications would help.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale
