What Are The Symptoms Of POTS?

I suspect my daughter has POTS (and EDS) but so far she has only seen a pediatric cardiologist. The EKG and Echo on her heart were normal and the nurses did BP and heart rate tests on her (standing, sitting, laying) at the beginning of the appointment and all were elevated, but not enough for him to suspect POTS. These results have the dr saying he seriously doubts it s POTS but she has nearly every symptom of this disorder. Should I get a second opinion?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Clinically it is defined as raise of pulse rate to 30 beats/min after standing for a period of 30 min or less as compared to lying down position.

Following are the common findings in various individuals with POTS
@ Dizziness
@ Nausea, vomiting
@ Headache
@ Chest discomfort
@ Breathlessness
@ Abdomen pain
@ Fainting
@ Excess thirst
@ Others

The diagnostic is Tilt table test , which should be discussed with your treating doc or another consultant to proceed.

Wish you fine health.

Take care.
