What Are The Symptoms Of ADHD In A Toddler?

Dr. My daughter is 2 year old we are staying in jeddah. She is very hyperactive girl we noticed this since she was 1 year 4 months old. She never sits in one place. Now she is almost 2 years and she didn t start speaking yet. (except : bye-bye, chu chu : for a bird, tar : for star, niyo niyo : for a cat), Most of the time she listens to what we say. (Ex. Throw this in carbage, click on the lift button, switch on the lights, etc. ) . She is good in playing games like arranging the blocks, arranging the rings, block hammering, etc. When ever we stop her for doing something she bangs her head unless she wont get what she wants. This is big concern for us. Is she having symptoms of ADHD.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

By what you quote I feel your child is having hyperactivity. It may be an attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Hyperactivity is a disorder of the mental makeup of the kid and not a physical deformity of the brain. Some kids may respond to iron simply and some kids my need other medications like Atomoxetine. But whatever it is the kids needs a thorough psychological evaluation and may be after behavioral therapy it might get better. But usually hyperactivity kids have very good IQ and if their energy can be diverted to a vocational training or any art or sport they like they will do wonders. I suggest you seek the help of a good pediatric psychologist. I wish your kid a speedy recovery. If you need any future medical consultation and suggestions, I will be glad to help.
