I ve recently slept with 2 partners with no protection. One has contacted me asking if I have HIV and I thought he was joking. He s claimed he has felt unwell since the last time we met. I have felt fine so told him it s probably the flu. I ve just spoken to the other person in question and he says he feels the same? I have a sore throat and slight phlegmy cough but not a fever. I ve been tested before this for HIV and was negative but now he s bought it to my attention I m really scared. What could it be ?
First of as your well wisher i want to tell you that having unprotected sex and multiple unknown partners carries very high risk of STD (not only HIV).
Regarding HIV signs and symptoms are variable in different person. It may range from fatigue, mild fever to severe weight loss and diarrhea. The interval of starting symptoms may range from 2 weeks to 6 months. During this interval person looks healthy but can have and transmit HIV.
Also you did not mention which kind of test you did for HIV. As some tests may remain negative in initial period of infection. HIV pcr test is the gold standard tesr for earliest detection of HIV.
In my opinion you should avoid unprotected sex in future and get yourself checked by physician for current illness.
I hope this will help you. Feel free for further queries. Give your valuable feedback for this.
First you need not to scare as the symptoms you have mentioned are of viral infection or flu what you have thought not of hiv. Symptoms of hiv are persistent fever for more than one month or persistent diarrhea for more than one month or persistent cough for more than one month with severe wight loss or loss of appetite or with some other co-infections and many more but these are main. If you have any of these symptoms than only can suspect for hiv otherwise don't think in that direction. If still you are in doubt than you can tested yourself for hiv, no need to hesitate but by doing this you will be sure about your condition.
