Hi,
Welcome to HCM. I have gone through your question and understand your concerns.

We should know why and how you are getting treated.

Your thyroid is not producing enough thyroid hormones. So what your doctor is trying to do is to REPLACE the thyroid hormone that is deficient in you. This drug wont increase the thyroid hormone production in your body.

There are few tests that we do before considering stopping the medications.
1. Anti thyroid antibodies
2. Ultrasound thyroid

If antibodies levels are elevated OR ultrasound neck shows abnormal thyroid, it means your thyroid is damaged and is unlikely to produce enough thyroid hormones that your body needs. In this situation I wont stop or decrease the dose of medications. If antibodies are low and ultrasound is normal then I consider decreasing thyroid medication to 25mcg and then stop it if thyroid functions are still normal.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help
With warm regards,
