Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was taking Clonazepam (a benzodiazepine) for two years 1mg to 2 mg a day off and on. I decided to quit and stop taking them altogther. I found out later this is called (cold turkey). I have not been taking any drug since May 2011. I readed online about benzodiazepine withdrawal and I have had alot of symptoms. But eight months in to it and I still have fatigue, weakness, numbness and tingling and burning on my shin, and brain fog too name a few. I taked to my doctor and he chuckles and tells me to spot looking a the web. Ill tell you if I would have did some research on Clonazepam before just taking what the doctor order I wounldnt be in this mess. My question is. Is the withdrawal from benzodiazepines really this long and painfull?
Clonazepam, a benzodiazepine does cause addiction and I congratulate you for successfully coming off it even though you suffered with its nasty withdrawal symptoms. Your present symptoms are unlikely to be due to the Clonazepam or any other benzodiazepine if you have not taken any during the last 8 months.
Your symptoms may be related to masked depression. I don't think this site has facility for video consultation. You can search the internet for Dr. Noble Zachariah and if you come across my web page, you can video consult me through the same.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Noble Zachariah, Internal Medicine Specialist
