What Are The Side Effects Of Using Birth Control Pills?

After my last cycle, I had a normal period, but a few fays after it ended, I stated breakthrough bleeding. I have been bleeding since (about three weeks). Now that I am in the brown pills, I stopped bleeding, but I have not gotten a period yet. I usually start Tuesday or Wednesday, and it is thirsday. I had symptoms of a period (cramps) on Monday and Tuesday, but nothing. I saw my gynocologist last week and she increased the dosage of my birth control to stop the break through bleeding. My question is: is it normal to have three weeks of breakthrough bleeding and then not get a period at all?

Hello ma'am and welcome.

Birth control can have various side effects and some of the more common ones are menstrual irregularities and inter-menstrual bleeding. Your bleeding was indeed due to the birth control, but for the bleed to last 3 weeks is indeed an undesired side effect and the delay in your period is also for the same reason.

In my opinion you should stay off the particular birth control used, and your cycle shall soon return to normal.

Best wishes.
