What Are The Side Effects Of Taking Valium?

Good evening, my son has taken quite a few valium prior to flying and the before he came home. He has developed a fear of flying. He now has terrible heartburn, could this be from the medication or from drinking too much cheap alcohol in Magaluf or a combination? He is in quite a bad state and taking gaviscon and some other heartburn tablets.Thank you

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history about your son taking lots of cheap alcohol in Magaluf, quite a few valium prior to flight, developed fear of flying, terrible heartburn, taking Gaviscon and other heartburn medications.
I would think of the following causes.
This looks to be primary fear of flying as valium or cheap alcohol do not cause such a thing although the gastritis caused by cheap alcohol can cause gastritis and hence the problem of heartburn, usually indicates GERD, that is gastroesophageal reflux disease.
I would advise him the following:
Take a PPI like Omeprazole.
Continue Gasviscon.
Soft bland diet.
Rest of a few days.
Alleviation of stress/ anxiety/ fear.
He will be alright.
