What Are The Side Effects Of Taking Prinivil?

I am 45years old female, started developing HBP out of the blue since 2-3 months, no weight issues, very mobile person, nutritious food/ salad etc etc but as my both parents had, so may be it is genetic. and the doctor has prescribed prinivil 5 mg daily. I will start taking it tomorrow. but I am very scared. I rarely used any drugs or medicines in my life. if I can control it by using medicines andsome DASH diet and exervise, is it possible I can go off my BP medicine or will I use it for the rest of my life? any side effect of prinivil? please do reply.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Once diagnosed with Hypertension(High BP) ots better to start with meds before it shoots up and causes major problems .
it is known to occur in otherwise perfectly normal and fit individuals so do not worry it is not a life threatening condition if under good control.
Along with the medication cut down salt in your diet and continue your regular exercise. You should do fine.
Before starting the medication Prinivil which is Lisinopril check your Kidney function tests. Also about a month or so after starting them.
Get a full cardiac assessment at the earliest just to rule out any problems.
Keep checking your blood pressure regularly - about once a week at least initially so that you know you're on the right track.
The side effects might be dry cough and may cause some electrolyte disturbances like Potassium levels going up.
That's why you need to check Kidney functions prior to it
