What Are The Side Effects Of Levipil, Tegrital And Milnace?

My son has been suffering from epilepsy from 2000. Initially he had twitching in one of his eyes, which later developed into seizures. He was prescribed Tertital 100 (twice daily) There were no attacks from the time medicated started. His dosage was reduced to one daily and further reduced to one every alternate day. About a year ago the doctors advised us to stop his medication. He has started getting the same symptoms again. He is advised to take Levipil 500 with Tegrital 200 and Milnace 25. What are the side effects and for how long he needs to continue medication.

Hello,
Thanks for writing to us with your son's health concern.
These medicine are antiepileptic drugs and are used for the problem of epilepsy, from which your son is suffering.
If his problem remained under control for years with one drug only and reappeared after stopping it then it has be be restarted and prefrably the other two drugs should be tapered off over time.
The side effects of these drugs are drowsiness, gastric upset, learning problems, mood upsets, bone marrow suppression, rash, phototoxicity.
Levipil has got Safest profile.
Try to switch your son on this and taper the other two in supervision of a physician.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Take care.
