hi i am 28 year old women, i m planning to have my first baby. i visited a gynecologist she advised me to take biopreg-f tablets on a daily basis. it contains biotin 5mg and follic acid 5mg but i have read that follic acid intake must not exceed 4 mg for women and it might also have side effects such as irreversible nerve damage . how safe it is to continue this tablet. will it have any side effects? please help.
Folic acid is commonly prescribed as a supplement during pregnancy to prevent and treat anemia. Generally it is well tolerated by most pregnant women however it may cause heart burn, flatulence or belching which subside gradually.
It is also recommended in higher doses (such as 5 milligrams) to prevent the risk of babies born with neural tube defects (brain defects) such as anencephaly and spina bifida. It is quite safe in high dose and hence continue to take it as prescribed.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
