What are the side effects of dialysis?

Dear Dr What are the side effects of being put in the life supp machine (the one that is put in the trout) for more than 3 weeks? What are the side effects of dialysis, if you are put on dialysis every day? You enter ICU without having the problem of renal failure and after being put onn life supp machines, all of a sudden you have a renal fuilure, what causes that?

Ventilation support (life support) has side effects like hospital acquired infection, pnuemonia, barotrauma (increase oxygen pressure effects respiratory mucosa, decrease cardiac out put which damages liver and kidneys and definitely if someone is admitted in ICU there is some severe disease process going on so renal failure may be due to that. On the other hand dialysis can cause bleeding, infection, disseminated intravascular coagulation, electrolyte imbalance, damage to blood vessels and blood clots.
