What Are The Side Effects Of Adrenalectomy?

I am having anedrenaloctomy at mayo clinic in 10days. what are the side effects after the surgery. I had the surgery thru my nose to remove the tumor on my pituitary. it did not work. I decided against the gamma knife procedure because my remission from the cushing disease cold take up to 2 years where the adrenal gland removal would cure me immediately.

Brief Answer:
You may live a normal life after adrenalectomy by taking life-long hormone replacement therapy.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for using HCM.
Adrenalectomy is associated with a condition which is related to the lack of hormones produced by the adrenal glands. Cortisol and aldosteron are the most important ones, which deficiency leads to the following clinical features: Low blood pressure and dehydration, abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea, high or low body temperature, join and muscle pain, headache and conscience alterations, etc...
Life-long treatment with oral Hydrocortisone (15-25 mg/day) and Fludrocortisone (0.05-0.1 mg/day) may avoid all these symptoms and enable you to live a normal life. Doses should be titrated by the endocrinologist, to normalize the electrolytes level (Natrium, Potassium), and to maintain normal blood pressure without postural changes.
You should be instructed by the medical staff in the parenteral self-administration of steroids and should be registered with a medical alert system.

Hope this is helpful.
