What Are The Side Effects Of Vyvanse?

I have been taking vyvanse for years now and since i have been in college sometimes i stay up all night to study, sometimes days at a time. I usually take 40mg in the morning and around 5 take another 40 and then around midnight take another 40 and repeat the same thing the next day.I experience a lot of the symptoms of overdose such as stomach pains, hallucinations, rapid heart beat, anxiety, trembling, etc. I did not know that it was so bad for you and i just figured those symptoms were from not sleeping. I have been doing this for almost 3 years now but since i have learned about it i have cut back but i am still nervous about the damage already caused. Are there any long term effects to overdosing frequently?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Vyvanse is composed of 'Lisdexamfetamine', which is a substituted amphetamine and an inactive prodrug of the central nervous system stimulant dextroamphetamine. It is used in the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and binge eating disorder.

Side effects include nausea, vomiting, constipation, stomach/abdominal pain, loss of appetite, dry mouth, headache, nervousness, dizziness, trouble sleeping, sweating, weight loss, irritability, and restlessness may occur.

At normal therapeutic doses, the physical side effects of amphetamine vary widely by age and from person to person.

If any of these effects persist or worsen, you need to seek doctor's attention promptly.

It would be better to use this medication for the specified period and the necessary dosage, as prescribed by your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S, General & Family Physician
