Hi,

Metoclopramide is an anti-emetic and prokinetic drug commonly prescribed to treat gastroesophageal reflux, and nausea/vomiting.

Its common side effects include diarrhea, drowsiness, depression, abnormal movements (extrapyramidal symptoms), decreased heart beats and hypotension.

Diabetes is not a contraindication to the use of this medication in fact it is found to be effective in the treatment of gastroparesis (slow stomach emptying) associated with diabetes, which can cause heartburn and stomach discomfort after meals.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician and Fetal Medicine
