What Are The Side Effects Of Metformin?

Hello I am a 71 year old male with approximately 1/3 of my colon left after dissection (not cancer) - I have noticed a change in stool in which I pass oblong, uniform, almost yellow pellet shaped stool regularly. I have been on metformin for about 5 weeks - could this be an effect of that medicine? Thanks

Metformin is an oral medication which is used to treat high blood sugar levels caused by type 2 diabetes mellitus. Common side effects that can occur with Metformin include gastrointestinal symptoms like diarrhea, nausea, stomach pain, heartburn and flatulence. What symptoms you are complaining of might not be caused as a side effect with use of Metformin. Kindly consult your doctor if the symptoms continues or becomes bothersome.
