HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It does not mean that there is a serious condition present.

There are different possible causes of an irregular period. Some of the more common causes are: (1) physical illness- another physical illness can cause delayed or irregular period

(2)thyroid disease- abnormal levels of thyroid hormones can also affect the period

(3)side effect of hormonal medication

(4)emotional stress or illness

(5)high levels of a hormone called prolactin which is released in the brain, blood tests can check this level

(6)polycystic ovarian syndrome- this is a common cause. There are abnormal levels of certain hormones and also the ovaries may have cysts present.
An ultrasound would be needed

You may need to revisit your doctor to find the cause. Treatment would depend on the cause found.

I hope this helps
