What Are The Side Effects Of Macrobid To Liver?

My doctor has prescribed 100 miligram tablets for my problems regarding UTI problems that have been a problem off and on for a number of years. The name of the medicine is Macrobid but he says the generic is just as good as MICROBID. I am concerned about the side effects to my liver and perhaps some other ones. Can you please give me your advice? My email address is jeparrish@bulloch,net.

Hello,

Every medicine has some side effects. Hepatic reactions like hepatitis, chronic active hepatitis, hepatic necrosis are very rare. It is less than 0.1%. Also elevated liver enzymes and bilirubin may occur.

The most probably side effects are nausea and headache and another like: fever, hives, itching, skin rash, sore throat, abdominal pain, constipation, etc.
But it doesn't mean that you will definitely have these side effects.

Macrobid is an antibiotic used to treat bladder infections and it works by stopping the growth of bacteria and should be taken with food for seven days.

Please note that you can try to prevent repeat UTIs. Urinate often and urinate after sex to flush away bacteria, wear cotton underwear so the area around the urethra will be dry. Also drinking lots of fluid can help flush bacteria.

If you have repeat infections your doctor should order tests to see if your urinary tract is normal like kidney and bladder ultrasound, urodynamics or
cystoscopy.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
