What Are The Side Effects Of Ibuprofen?

I have been taking 800 mg ibuprofin 2X/day for at least 10 years. My body is telling me to stop taking it. A friend was in the same situation and was prescribed Mobic. I want to know the side effects, its compatibility with other meds and contraindications. Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Ibuprofen is a Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) commonly used to reduce fever and treat pain or inflammation caused by many conditions such as a headache, toothache, back pain, arthritis, or minor injury.

Its common side effects include heartburn, inflammation of the stomach, stomach ulcer, bleeding and kidney damage on prolonged use. It should not be used along with BP lowering medications, blood thinners or if you have the stomach ulcer.

Mobic (Meloxicam) is also an NSAID commonly prescribed in the treatment of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and muscular pain. It is also known to cause similar side effects and has similar contraindications.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
