Heptral is S-Adenosyl methionine, also called SAM or SAM-e. It is considered a dietary supplement in the United States and is not approved by the FDA. In some other countries it may be used to treat various types of liver disease. If it is chronic active hepatitis B you have, there are specific antiviral medicines that are approved for treatment now. Weight loss and decreased fat intake and alcohol avoidance should help with the fatty liver. All medicines have potential side effects. This one can cause indigestion, gastrointestinal problems, anxiety, and insomnia. It can interact with certain other drugs, rarely causing a serious condition called serotonin syndrome. Hope this answers your query.
