What Are The Side Effects Of Gemer And Metformin In A Diabetic?

I am 43 yrs old, my weight is 72kgs. I have been diabatic patient since 2007. Initially I was treated with Metforming 500mg twice per day and later I was advised to control my sugar levels with diet and exrcises and it worked properly. Recently my sugar levels went up and I am being treated with Gemer 2 once per day and metforming 250mg once per day. My sugar levels are back to normal now as I continue with this dosage. What could be the side effects of the combination of the two medicine?

Hello,

Welcome to HCM and thanks for your query
Germer 2 is a combination of Glimepride 2 mg and Metformin 500mg. It is a good combination if your diabetes is not controlled by a single drug metformin. The corner stone of diabetes treatment is a healthy life style and maintenance of Body Mass Index ( BMI) below 25. Healthy life style includes a wholesome low Glycemic Index ( GI) food, moderate exercise of 150 minutes or more per week, stress relief, no smoking and alcohol consumption in moderation only.
The side effects of Glimepride is a higher risk of weight gain and hypoglycemia. Metformin side effects are mainly gastrointestinal. The combination tends to decrease the side effects than would occur if the components were taken as monotherapy in higher doses.
