What Are The Side Effects Of Gabapentin?

I have just been prescribed Gabapentin to treat -presumably- neuropathic pain. What side effects should I expect besides dizziness, somnolence; I felt nauseated (and vomited) 4 hours after taking 300 mg. Do I need to wait for a particular drug level in my body before I see some improvement on my pain? Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Gabapentin is an anti-epileptic medication, which is used to treat seizures and some types of pain, particularly of nerves.
Drowsiness, dizziness, loss of coordination, tiredness, blurred vision, unusual eye movements and tremors may occur as its side effects.
Feeling of nausea and vomiting could be due to gastric irritation after intake of drug. Hence it is advisable to take medication after food and drink good quantities of fluids following its intake.
It should start its action right from the intake of first dose itself.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
