What Are The Side Effects Of Gabapentin And Lamotrigine?

I have diabetic neuropathy and I have received a recommendation that I use medical marijuana for the pain. Currently, I am taking Gabapentin (600 mg 4xdaily) Lamotrigine (50 mg in the am, and 100 mg in the eve.) and Duloxetine (60 mg daily. I need to know if this might be a good thing and what the side effects and pros and cons are.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Side effects of Gabapentin are as follows:

dizziness, drowsiness, unsteadiness, memory loss, lack of coordination, difficulty speaking, viral infections, tremors, double vision, fever, unusual eye movements, and jerky movements.

Side effects of Lamotrigine are Nausea, Dizziness, Drowsiness. A headache. Changes in menstrual periods, Back pain, Insomnia, Blurred or double vision.

As you are also taking Duloxetine, I would like to tell you that using Gabapentin and Lamotrigine together with Duloxetine may increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, and difficulty concentrating.

So I will suggest for spacing of these drugs or do not take these drugs at one time. You can also consult your doctor for spacing of the drugs.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Prabhash Verma, General & Family Physician
