What Are The Side Effects Of Ciprofloxacin And Metronidazole?

colonoscopy was conducted yesterday and doctor was unable to complete the process due to inflammation. Am now taking 500 Mg Ciprofloxacin twice a day and 250 Mg Metronidazole three times a day. Alerts of side effects are concerning to me. The only symptom I have is diarrhea ever since I had a section of my intestine removed about 10 years ago due to a twisted section. Something to do with the cecum.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Inflammation of your bowels noted during the colonoscopy procedure is treated with ciprofloxacin and metronidazole. The most common side effects related to these drugs include diarrhea due to alteration in intestinal flora. Take probiotics to stabilize intestinal flora. If diarrhea will persist or will get worse, should consult with your physician as soon as possible. Follow BRAT diet (banana, rice, apple sauce, toast) until fully recovered. Avoid spicy/chilly/high fat/fried foods.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
