What Are The Side Effects Of Benefiber?

Just recovering from diverticulitis attack after 4 days of bedridden. Had rx but now that I am past the attack can benefiber be of help and if so how long before it works? I have seen posts where benefiber just makes my constipation worse and I don t need that.

Benefiber forms a watery gel in your digestive system. This can cause bloating, increased intestinal gas, a noisy stomach and possibly cramps. Starting off with a smaller amount and gradually increasing the dose over several weeks can help reduce these side effects.
Also,benefiber bulks up and softens the stool, promoting regular and easier bowel movements. If fiber supplements are taken without sufficient fluid intake, however, they can potentially lead to or worsen constipation.
