What Are The Side Effects If Squamous Cell Carcinoma Is Untreated?

What are the possible side effects if a person does not get squamous cell carcinoma treated? My 87 year old father thinks just because the crusty part fell off that it is okay. He has been told by a nurse that it has roots below it. I think what is scaring him is having to have it removed in an operating room where he may have anesthiesia. He went to two appointsments thinking it was going to be removed. I am concerned about spreading into the lymph nodes.

Hi..Understanding your concern. As per your query I will advise you to get it operated as soon as possible to prevent its further progress. The multiplication rate of cancerous cells is very fast to involue other parts and lymph nodes and become malignant....Squamous cell carcinoma generally painless in starting and he may not be feeling any discomfort. But as it will progress it can become painful or. numb....Any smoking or addiction should be stopped. As he is much older you should take special care of him and consult an oncologist for therapy and surgery.....I hope the information helps you. Take care.
