What Are The Side Effects For Taking Prednisone Tablets?

I was given a shot of cortisone today in my left foot, in the joint of my 5th metatarsal. This is for lingering pain in a foot injury. In addition, i was also prescribed prednisone 20mg, take 4 a day for 5 days. I d rather not take these pills. Is that okay? I don t want any of the possible side effects, and as i ve been dealing with some depression already. I know my doctor gave me the meds, but many doctors in the West habitually overmedicate. DO you think it s okay if i drop these pills. I can t afford the possibility of side effects right now, especially already having intravenous steriods already today.

Hi,
As you rightly thought, steroids are given only when absolutely necessarily. As you have only been prescribed them for 5 days, they are unlikely to cause long term side effects. Dropping the pills might result in continuation of your symptoms, which may at a later time become difficult to treat.
if you are concerned about their side effects, discuss with your doctor and then decide.
