What Are The Side Effect Of Pain Medicines?

We recently moved to Auburn from Northern Washington. I have been under the care of a family practitioner for several years who has prescribed a fairly moderate to heavier dosage of pain medication. I d like to get off it but have tried before without much success. I am wondering what your philosophy is about pain meds. The meds are for severe degenerative arthritis at three or four levels in the low neck area and fairly significant disc disease. I am on a regimen now of 120 tablets of Oxycodone @ 20 mg. per tablet per month. Would you be adverse to continuing me on the meds at lease in a course of gradual withdrawal. I got pretty sick when I tried to withdraw cold turkey. Thank you. Ray Hanke Auburn
