What Are The Risks Of Having Pexep And Self Medicating?

Over a year ago I found some meds my husband bought over the Internet. I challenged him on it, he got angry but I thought he stopped. Well I found them again. There is no packaging just foil strips. There is maybe 20 strips left each with 10 pills. They are called pexep cr 12.5 and I can see they are an SSRI. I am worried that he s self medicating over the Internet; that he s hiding it from me; also I wonder about side effects. He drinks heavily, most nights. He gets easily frustrated and angry. I don t know if these pills make him angry or if he s taking these to try and stop the anger. I m really very worried. I have hidden the pills but I might put them back because I don t want to start a fight. What are the risks of these pills and should I be worried Thank you

Hi,

First of all, it's sad to know what your husband had been going through lately.

Based on the history you have shared, yes self-medication, especially with these neurological and neuropsychiatric medicines.

Can be associated with severe side effects including life threatening ones like neuroleptic malignant syndromes or withdrawal syndromes like serotonin syndrome so should be used under the guidance of a qualified psychiatrist.

Kindly motivate him gently and slowly to get a psychologist review and to join group therapies to overcomes these problems.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
