Hello, having
HIV antibodies does mean that you HIV virus has entered in your body and are producing antibodies acting as an 'antigen', but it does not mean you have reached a state of
AIDS, though at best you can be termed as HIV positive. HIV infection precedes AIDS and symptom less phase is HIV Infection and with symptoms it is state of AIDS . I suggest you to get yourself tested again after proper
counselling and see a qualified HIV specialist to allay your fears. Usually to confirm a person to be HIV positive we in India(our protocol) perform three tests of the sample using three different Kits and you can opt for Western Blotting test too to very sure.
This is the problem with HIV infection( and not AIDS) that you could remain and look absolutely fine and still be positive for HIV antibodies
Here are causes of false positivity :
1. Auto-antibodies
2,HIV Vaccines
3.
Influenza vaccine
4.Technical error
Keep me posted.
